The Beauty of Lavender

The beauty of lavender is undeniable! The flowers are a gorgeous shade of purple. The aroma of the lavender flower is so popular it has been used for centuries for many different purposes. And what’s more, lavender even has medicinal properties!

Soothing the Mind With Lavender

Lavender is known for it’s calming effects. It is often used in aromatherapy to relax the nervous system and support sleep. Not only does it improve sleep quality, but it also improves sleep longevity. So, if you’re tossing and turning at night, try adding some lavender to your bedtime routine!

You can put some lavender essential oil on your pillow, or in a diffuser. You can drink a cup of lavender tea. Or you can even use lavender creams and balms to benefit from its effects all night long.

Healing the Body With Lavender

Lavender also has medicinal benefits. It has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal properties. That means lavender creams can soothe irritated skin while also giving you skin a boost in radiance. At the same time, lavender will also help to prevent the overgrowth of candida and other common fungi that naturally occur in our environment and bodies.

Lavender can also soothe bug bites and promotes healing. It’s also been shown to stimulate hair growth and reduce hair loss. And in clinical trials, lavender has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety. This is definitely an essential oil you want to have in your cupboard!

Purifying the Spirit With Lavender

In ancient times, lavender was used to protect the home and purify the space. If you want to bring a peaceful, serene energy into your home, burn some lavender candles, or add a few drops of the essential oil onto the burning candle. You can also keep the flowers, dried or fresh, in your home to enjoy the spiritual benefits of this beautiful flower.

My Goddess Salt Scrub Recipe

This recipe is my absolute favorite! I use it in my shower every day, and even use it on my face. It leaves my skin feeling soft and radiant while also smelling great! Plus it keeps the mosquitoes away, and when you’re living in paradise, that’s really important!

Base Ingredients

  • Fine sea salt – 3/4 of the jar
  • Olive oil – pour over until it covers half the salt
  • Avocado oil – pour in to cover the remaining salt
  • Essential oils

My Essential Oil Blend

The proportions depend on the potency of your oils. Patchouli is pretty strong, so I use as little as possible. I only need about 4-5 drops to keep the mosquitoes away, but then I double up on my floral scents to balance it out. Sandalwood is a great compliment to patchouly!

With citronella, I would begin with only a couple of drops (2). It is has a very potent smell and can be irritating to the skin in large quantities. This is definitely a “season to taste” endeavor! Then add in the other scents depending on what you like!

This is my personal blend, but you can make it your own!

  • Citronella (2)
  • Patchouli (4)
  • Sandalwood (5)
  • Jasmine (7)
  • Ylang-Ylang (7)
  • Lavender (5)
  • Mandarin (5)

Making Goddess Sea Salt Scrubs

I love to make my own sea salt (or sugar) scrubs! They’re great for exfoliation and also leave your skin moisturized and smelling fantastic. When you learn the basics, you can create the perfect recipe for glowing, radiant skin. It’s easy to make these scrubs a part of your goddess skin care routine! Go for a natural skincare routine that will make you feel luxurious and beautiful!

There are many wonderful kinds of oils and they all have different uses and benefits. Depending on whether your skin tends to be dry, oily, or sensitive, you can create your own combinations for the perfect beauty routine. Plus, you don’t have to worry about any harsh chemicals, preservatives or other strange ingredients in the mix!

Sweet or Salty?

The base of your scrub is super important! I like to use fine sea salt in the summer when it’s hot and sticky out. We also get lots of mosquitoes in paradise, so I sneak repellant oils into my recipe. Forget about those gross bug sprays! These essential oils keep the mosquitoes away and are safe and healthy for your skin.

But during the cooler months I actually like to use brown sugar as my base. It is rich and nourishing, but washes off clean and silky smooth. It also makes your shower a luxurious experience with an aroma to die for!

Nourishing Your Skin Type

Is your skin dry? Go easy on the coconut oil because it’s actually drying. Opt instead for olive or avocado oil (my personal favorite!). If your skin is on the oily side, on the other hand, you can enjoy a small amount of the benefits of olive and avocado, but use something lighter as your main base. Jojoba and coconut oils are both great carrier oils.

Your skin type is a really important consideration when you’re designing your perfect scrub. It’s not a bad idea to start out making a small jar of your goddess scrub. That way you can try it out for a week to see how it goes, and then make adjustments with the next batch! You’re skin will be glowing and thanking you!

The Fragrance of a Goddess

When you’re choosing your essential oils, there are a couple of things to consider. Of course you want to choose the ones that are going to give you the health benefits you are looking for. Some reduce blemishes, clear inflammation, or calm irritated skin.

But you also want to smell amazing!!! Pick out best essential oil for your skin’s optimal health and then consider the scent you are working with. It’s kind of like putting together a bouquet of flowers. Some repellant oils like citronella and patchouly have a really strong smell that turns people off. But if you use just enough to keep the bugs away, you can add beautiful florals or citrus to mask the really potent ones!

Preparing Your Own Goddess Scrub

Start out simple! Grab a small glass jar and fill it about two thirds of the way with fine sea salt or sugar. Take your carrier oil and pour it over the top of the salt covering it completely. Screw on the lid and turn it upside down until the oil begins to seep through the salt. Shake! shake! shake!

Once you have thoroughly covered the sea salt (it shouldn’t be swimming), open the jar back up and start adding a few drops of your favorite essential oils. Shake and smell. What do you think? A little more lavender? A little more jasmine? Go ahead and experiment. You’ll know when your goddess scrub makes you feel glorious!

Using Your Goddess Sea Salt Scrub

Well, this is definitely the best part! Once you’ve gently cleansed your skin and finished with any depilation, scoop out a small handful of the scrub and massage your skin with it. I like to start from the top and work my way down. The combination of exfoliation and moisturization feels amazing!

Rinse off completely and towel dry. Don’t worry if you feel greasy! Towel drying will remove all of the excess oils from your skin leaving you feeling refreshed and glowing.
